Reclaim Our Ambition.

“If you want to be a great people, mingle and live together with great people, insyaallah, you’ll become one!”

One day, there is a group of tabi’in, they sit on the platform of the Ka'bah, and chatting and talking among themselves.

Then, Mus'ab bin Umair starts the conversation by saying, "Be ambitious!"

All of his sahabah  are silent and they refused  to talk and share about their ambitions, maybe they shy. May be.

So they requested  Mus'ab to be the first to tell about his ambition and desire. "O Mus'ab, why not start with yours first?", said his sahabah.

Musab smiled and he replied, "I want to be able to conquer the Muslim regions of Iraq, I want to marry princess Sakinah Hussein, and Aisha bint Talhah bin 'Ubaidullah."

Several years later, because of his enthusiastic and focused ambition, Musab got what he dreamt before.

Another sahabah, Urwah bin Zubair, also shared about his ambition. He said he would like to master knowledge of fiqh and hadith. In the history of Islam, Urwah indeed, become one of  the prominent scholars of fiqh and  yet, he had so many narratives.

Then, it was Abdul Malik bin Marwan’s turn. What are his ambitions? He said he wanted to be the ruler. And it has been proven that in the end he became caliph at the time of Caliph Umawiyah. In fact, he is not only a ruler that has a lot of knowledge and a strong serve, but to be the pioneer of the postal system, he managed to translate many foreign books and a coinage of gold.

Lastly, Abdullah bin Umar disclose what he desires about. He insisted that his ambition is heaven!
Subhanallah.

Ambitions of community along with the Prophet

That generation of tabi'in, what about the generation of the companions of the Prophet who lived contemporary with him?

Umar al-Khattab once ask his friends to share among themselves about their dreams. He said, “Be ambitious!”

Then, one of his friend remarked, "I want the entire building fill with gold so that I can infak it in the path of Allah".

Umar said for the second time, “Be ambitious!”

Someone said, "I want this room fill with jewels and pearls so that I can infaq it in the path of Allah".

Umar said again, “Be ambitious!”

They say, "We do not know what else we want to be, O’ Umar".

Then, Umar Al-Khattab said, "I want to be approached  by a great men such as Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah, so that I can strive in the path of God with him."
Subhanallah. Unusually great!

So, what is the ibrah or lessons that we can get from this story?!

Yeah, we have to be ambitious!

Shared and expressed your ambitions make other people to be inspired with your ambitions as well as you being inspired by other’s ambition. But yet, the most important thing to make your dreams come true is TO MAKE AN ACTION! Wake up and take a step, and move forward, don’t ever turn back, past is past, and future is what you gonna be faced  later.

And, last but not least, remember the 3C’s, life mnemonic

In Surah Ar-Rad, verses11, Allah said that, "Verily, Allah will not change the fate of a people until the people themselves changed what was in them".

So, choices is in our hands, what we have to do is to THINK wisely and make a good CHOICE, grab whatever CHANCE you see, and  make a CHANGE!

Wallahua’alam.
